Course Aims:
- To provide ECTs and new non specialist maths teachers with a strong grounding in how secondary maths learning develops across key stages
- To build confidence in planning coherent maths lessons that connect ideas and avoid misconceptions
- To give teachers practical strategies for assessing prior knowledge, checking understanding and using feedback purposefully
- To strengthen early subject knowledge and pedagogical understanding to ensure high quality maths teaching from day one
This course is suitable for secondary maths ECTs and non-specialist teachers who have recently started to teach some mathematics. More experienced non-specialists wishing to further develop their subject knowledge might find 'Subject Knowledge Enhancement for Non-Specialist Teachers of Secondary Mathematics' (NUM235) more suitable.
This year, instead of a fixed programme, we are offering Early Career Teachers and non-specialist teachers the opportunity to create a bespoke CPD pathway through a flexible ‘pick and mix’ model. You can select from a suite of carefully designed courses:
• Starting Strong in Secondary Mathematics: A practical course for new and non-specialist teachers (NUM242)
• Inclusive Practice in the Secondary Maths Classroom (NUM245)
• Maths Assessment: Tools and techniques for secondary maths teachers (NUM246)
• Seeing the Maths: Empowering Secondary Maths Teachers Through Representation and Structure (delivered as three half-day sessions) (NUM247)
Build the programme that best meets your needs and context, while benefiting from our ‘book more, save more’ offer: book multiple sessions and receive increasing discounts, starting at 10% and rising depending on the number of bookings. This approach gives you the flexibility to tailor high-quality professional development to your priorities, while making excellent value use of your CPD budget. The courses must be booked together in order to qualify for the discount.
